How Much Does a Moissanite Ring Cost? (2026 Price Guide)

By NOVAE ATELIER · 2026-10-04 · 11 min read
Moissanite solitaire ring in 925 sterling silver with a square asscher-cut centre stone in a four-prong setting
A single stone in four prongs is the simplest ring there is - and still the one people price first. This asscher-cut solitaire is $108 as of October 2026. NOVAE ATELIER, 2026.

A ring is the piece people research hardest before they buy it. The first question is almost always a number, and the second is almost always the same: is that number too good to be true, and what am I giving up? Those are fair questions and they deserve arithmetic, not adjectives.

Short answer: our moissanite rings run from $49 to $585 as of 4 October 2026 — 30 rings, every one in 925 sterling silver with the stones set, made to order in our Guangzhou workshop. The thin stacking bands start at $49; the four engagement-style rings are $99 to $199; the heaviest multi-row pavé bands and the large-stone cocktail rings reach $544 to $585. Nobody is charged separately for the stone or the setting — the ring price is the ring price. For scale, a US retailer publishes 1.00 to 1.10 carat natural diamond stones, E–F colour and VS1–VVS2 clarity, ideal cut, at $7,800 to $8,675 on the same day — stone only, before any setting (Whiteflash diamond listings, checked 4 October 2026). That is a different stone in a different material and it is not a like-for-like pair; but it is the number most people are quietly weighing us against, so it belongs on the page rather than left implied. Below: what a moissanite ring actually is, every price in our own line, what moves those numbers, the diamond comparison with published figures, how sizing works, what document ships with the ring, and how to keep one looking the way it arrived.

What a moissanite ring actually is

Moissanite is silicon carbide — a crystal grown in a laboratory rather than mined. It is not carbon and it is not diamond, and the difference is not a marketing distinction: under US federal rules a diamond is defined as a mineral consisting essentially of pure carbon, with a hardness of 10 and a specific gravity of approximately 3.52 (16 CFR § 23.12(a)), and using the unqualified word “diamond” for anything that does not meet that definition is treated as unfair or deceptive (16 CFR § 23.12(b)). That is why this page names the stone in every sentence. There is no version of honest copywriting in which a moissanite ring is described as a diamond ring.

Two properties explain most of the confusion around it. The Gemological Institute of America, describing a synthetic moissanite it examined, wrote that the stone can be “mistaken for diamond because some of its properties approach those of diamond, namely hardness and thermal conductivity (a trait measured in some instruments to distinguish diamond from many other simulants)”, while other properties are “quite different from diamond, such as a much higher dispersion (leading to more obvious fire) and double refraction” (GIA, Gems & Gemology lab notes, Fall 2020). The first half of that sentence is why a pocket tester lights up. The second half is why the stone looks different in a room: more fire, more rainbow, and a doubled facet pattern under magnification.

The base metal is 925 sterling silver, which under 16 CFR § 23.5(b)(2) may only be described as sterling if it is at least 925 parts per thousand silver, and where a rhodium layer goes on top of the silver for brightness we disclose it, as the rules require for a rhodium surface layer (16 CFR § 23.7). On the pavé rings the stones are set one at a time under a microscope. The reason is the only one buyers ask about: stones that stay where they were put.

One thing we do not do is publish a grading scale. GIA's own lab note gives one moissanite's clarity as equivalent to a diamond grade only inside brackets, with the words “if such clarity grades were assigned to synthetic moissanite” (GIA, Fall 2020). They are not assigned. What we state instead is our own buying standard — D–F colour, VVS-grade clarity, held across the line — and we label it for what it is: the standard we buy to, not a laboratory grade. It is also why the paperwork we ship is a certificate naming the material rather than a diamond-style report, which is covered further down. If you want the material itself explained from the ground up, that is in What Is Moissanite? The Complete 2026 Guide.

Our prices, ring by ring

These are our own selling prices — what a customer pays — read from our catalogue on 4 October 2026, quoted in USD, stones set, in 925 sterling silver.

Rings, by lineWhat you pay (as of 4 Oct 2026)Rings in the line
Rings — bands, single-stone designs, statement pieces$49 – $58523

Ladies' rings$1091
Rings, whole line$49 – $58530

Prices are our selling prices as of 4 October 2026. Read the numbers by line, not by mood: $99–$199 is the engagement sub-line, and $49–$585 is the whole category. A ring at $199 is the most expensive one we label engagement; a band at $585 is the most expensive ring we make.

Here is the ladder in actual pieces, so the range stops being abstract.

Moissanite quad row baguette band in 925 sterling silver, four rows of baguette and round stones set across the face
Four rows of stones is four times the setting work of one row, and it is the reason this is our most expensive ring. Quad row baguette band, $585 as of October 2026. NOVAE ATELIER, 2026.

What actually moves the price

Five things, and none of them is a stone brand — moissanite is a material, sold by the millimetre like any other.

What is not on that list: any promise about how close the stone is to a diamond. Moissanite is its own material with its own optics, and pricing it as a knock-down diamond is the habit that has produced most of the nonsense written about it.

The diamond comparison, with published numbers

This is the table people actually want, with a US retailer's own published listings on one side and our catalogue on the other.

Every diamond figure is the retailer's own published listing or its own published bracket, not an independent price index, and each describes a stone rather than a finished ring. Our figures are our selling prices on the date shown.

Three things are worth saying plainly, because that table on its own is not the whole story.

Diamond prices do not scale the way you expect. The same retailer's own guidance is that price per carat jumps at round-number thresholds — the 1.00 carat mark is the most prominent — so a 0.95 carat and a 1.00 carat stone of identical quality look the same to the eye and do not cost the same (Whiteflash, “How Much Should You Pay for a 1 Carat Diamond?”, checked 4 October 2026). A moissanite ring does not carry that cliff, which is why the size you can afford at a given budget behaves differently in the two materials.

What you are buying with the difference is the stone, not the setting. On a diamond ring the centre stone is the overwhelming majority of the invoice; the metal, the prongs and the bench time are the small part. Our prices work the other way round: the ring at $49 and the ring at $585 use the same 925 sterling silver, and the difference is how much setting work and how much stone surface is in the piece. So the money that buys one modest diamond stone in our size range buys a visibly larger moissanite ring, or a band and a stacking ring and a second band.

What you give up is resale. Diamond holds secondhand value better than any other stone; moissanite has almost no resale market, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something. If part of what you are buying is value you might one day convert back into cash, that argument deserves respect, and we would rather say so than sell you the wrong ring. If what you are buying is how the hand looks at dinner, it does not apply. Lab-grown diamonds are available on request in our custom line, which is a third material again; the fair three-way comparison — hardness, fire, price and what each stone is made of — is set out in Moissanite vs CZ vs Lab Diamond, and the two-stone version is in Lab Diamond vs Moissanite.

Paved moissanite band in 925 sterling silver worn on the hand, rows of round and baguette stones hand-set across the band
How a ring actually reads is decided on the hand: the size of the stones matters less than the light the band catches. NOVAE ATELIER workshop, 2026.

Sizing, and how ordering works

Every ring in our line is made to order rather than pulled from a shelf, so the size is decided before the bench starts. The listings that carry a size in the option list run from US 5 to US 11, and where a ring is offered in several sizes the price does not change with the size — a US 6 and a US 8 of the same ring cost the same. Where a listing offers different stone colours, those are priced separately, which you can see on the piece itself. If your size is outside the range above or you are between two sizes, tell us before ordering: resizing a finished ring with stones set across the band is a bench job, and it is far cheaper to build it right the first time.

Production and shipping are quoted together: your ring is made in our Guangzhou workshop, then ships fully insured with tracking, with delivery typically 5–10 business days worldwide. If a date matters — an anniversary, a birthday, a trip — say the date in the first message rather than the last, and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable instead of after you have paid.

One practical note on sizing a surprise: a ring size taken from another ring she already wears is more reliable than one estimated from a photograph of her hand, and a ring meant for the index or middle finger needs a different size than the same hand's ring finger. Ask us for the size chart rather than converting from a European or UK size yourself.

What ships with the ring, and what does not

Rings with a centre stone over 1 carat ship with a certificate confirming the stone is moissanite. What it is not is a grading report: there is no diamond-style clarity grade for moissanite to report, for the reason GIA's lab note gives — no such grades are assigned to it (GIA, Gems & Gemology lab notes, Fall 2020). The small pavé stones in a band are documented at batch level, which is standard practice across the industry rather than a sign of something being hidden.

Two documents to be wary of when you shop elsewhere. The first is a paper that looks like a diamond grading report for a moissanite ring, which describes a category that does not exist. The second is an appraisal figure used as a selling point: an “appraised at” number is not a price anyone paid, and it is not a substitute for a published price. Neither says anything about whether the ring is good; both say something about the seller.

Wearing it every day

Silicon carbide does not tarnish, cloud or fade, so the stone will look the same in five years as it does the day it arrives. The metal is what changes. The 925 sterling silver under the stones can darken over time, and a rhodium or gold finish wears first where it rubs most — which on a ring is the inside of the band and the edges of the face. The finish-by-finish detail is in Does Moissanite Tarnish? 925 Silver & Gold Plating; the short version is that a ring survives on habits rather than products.

Do not rinse a ring over an open sink — that is where loose stones and whole rings disappear. Do not put a pavé band in a home ultrasonic cleaner, because the vibration can shake small stones loose; let a bench jeweler run it and check the settings at the same time. Take the ring off for the gym, the pool and the shower, and dry it before it goes back in the box. The question of whether the stone reads as diamond to other people is a separate one and it is covered in Does Moissanite Pass a Diamond Tester?.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a moissanite ring cost?
In our own line, moissanite rings run from $49 to $585 as of 4 October 2026 — 30 rings, every one in 925 sterling silver with the stones set. Thin stacking bands start at $49. The four engagement-style rings run $99 to $199. The heaviest multi-row pavé bands and the large-stone cocktail rings reach $544 to $585.

Is a moissanite ring worth it?
For the look on the hand, a moissanite ring at $49 to $585 does what a natural diamond stone alone is priced at $7,800 to $8,675 for at one US retailer on the same day, before any setting. What you give up is resale value: diamond holds secondhand value better than any other stone, and moissanite has almost none. A ring is also the piece people look at closest, so if the point of the purchase is that the stone be diamond to anyone who asks, buy the diamond instead. If the point is how the ring looks and what else the money can do, the trade is unusually good.

How much does a 1 carat moissanite ring cost?
We price rings by design and by millimetre, not by carat weight, so there is no single one-carat price. The listings in our line that carry a carat figure in the name run from $99 for a 2 carat princess-cut ring to $544 for an 8 carat oval cocktail ring. One thing to know when comparing with diamond prices: moissanite is sold by millimetre size, and the same face-up size weighs less than a diamond would, so a moissanite and a diamond of the same carat number are not the same size on the hand.

Do moissanite rings tarnish or turn your finger green?
The stone cannot tarnish, because tarnish happens to metal. What can darken is the 925 sterling silver underneath, and a rhodium or gold finish slows that down until the finish wears. A green mark is a reaction between skin acids and metal, not a sign the stone is bad, and it is far more common with brass and copper base metals than with sterling silver. Rings are worn against skin all day, so drying the piece before you put it away matters more here than on a chain.

Do moissanite rings pass a diamond tester?
On a pocket thermal tester they usually read like diamond, which is a quirk of heat conductivity rather than proof of anything. The Gemological Institute of America describes moissanite as a stone that can be mistaken for diamond because some of its properties approach diamond's, namely hardness and thermal conductivity, while other properties are quite different. A bench jeweler identifies it with a different instrument in seconds.

What document ships with a moissanite ring?
A certificate confirming the stone is moissanite. It is not a grading report, and there is no diamond-style clarity grade for moissanite to report: the Gemological Institute of America's own lab note gives one stone's clarity as equivalent to a diamond grade only inside brackets, with the caveat that no such grades are assigned to synthetic moissanite. If a seller offers a diamond-style grade on a moissanite ring, ask which laboratory stands behind it.
