How Much Does a Custom Moissanite Cuban Chain Cost? (2026 Price Breakdown)

By NOVAE ATELIER · 2026-08-02 · 6 min read

If you've been shopping for a Cuban link chain with moissanite stones, you've probably noticed prices are all over the place — anywhere from $150 to $5,000 for what looks like the same product. Here's exactly what determines the cost, what you should expect to pay at each tier, and how to avoid overpaying.

The Short Answer

A custom moissanite Cuban chain from a direct workshop costs $250–$2,500 depending on the width, stone count, and base metal. The same chain through a retail brand or boutique jeweler typically runs 2–5× higher — not because the quality is better, but because there are more middlemen in the supply chain.

Chain WidthStone LayoutMaterialWorkshop PriceRetail Price
6.5mmSingle Row Iced925 Silver$250–$400$600–$1,200
8mmDouble Row925 Silver$400–$650$1,000–$2,000
10mmDouble Row Iced925 Silver$550–$800$1,400–$2,800
13mmTriple Stone Iced925 Silver$500–$1,400$1,500–$4,500
15mmCrescent Bubble925 Silver$600–$900$1,800–$3,500
16mmTriple Row925 Silver$700–$1,100$2,000–$4,000
18mmFully Iced/Baguette925 Silver$1,200–$2,500$3,500–$8,000

Note: These prices are for 925 sterling silver base metal with moissanite stones. Gold plating adds $50–$150. Solid 10K/14K gold (rare at this weight) can push the price to $5,000–$15,000+.

What Determines the Price

1. Chain Width (mm)

This is the single biggest factor. An 18mm chain uses roughly 3–4× the metal and 2–3× the stones of an 8mm chain. Each millimeter increase in width adds approximately $30–$80 for silver chains and $100–$300 for gold ones.

2. Stone Count & Layout

A single-row iced chain might use 20–30 stones per link face. A fully iced 18mm Cuban can use 200–400+ stones on the same surface area. Stone count is the primary driver of craftsmanship cost — every stone is hand-set under a microscope. More stones = more bench time.

3. Stone Quality — Our Stone Standard

Not all moissanite is equal. Stones held to our standard — D–F colour, VVS-grade clarity, excellent cut — cost 2–3× more than commercial-grade moissanite — but the visual difference is enormous. Low-grade moissanite has a yellow tint and cloudy appearance. Always ask what grade is being used.

About documents: Moissanite is not graded on the diamond clarity scale, so an IGI/GIA-style grading report does not apply to it. What we provide is a certificate for centre stones over 1 carat. Smaller melee and pavé stones are covered at the batch level rather than per stone — that is standard across moissanite jewelry. Lab-grown diamonds follow a similar rule: individual IGI/GIA reports apply to stones above 0.5 carat. At NOVAE ATELIER, every centre stone over 1ct ships with its certificate.

4. Base Metal

5. Direct Workshop vs. Retail Brand

This is the biggest pricing lever most buyers don't realize they have. A retail brand that advertises on Instagram, pays celebrity endorsements, and maintains a physical store has 3–5× markup baked into every price tag. A direct workshop — the same bench that makes chains for those brands — charges materials + craftsmanship + a modest margin. Same hands. Same stones. Different supply chain. That's the difference between $600 and $2,400 for the same 10mm chain.

How to Get the Best Price

  1. Buy direct from a workshop, not a brand. Every middleman adds 50–100% markup. Ask where the piece is actually made.
  2. Know your mm before you inquire. "I want a Cuban chain" is too vague. "I want a 10mm double-row Cuban in 925 silver" gets you an accurate quote immediately.
  3. Ask about stone grade. If the price seems too good to be true, ask what moissanite grade they're using. D–F colour with VVS-grade clarity is the standard you want — not commercial-grade with a yellow tint.
  4. Check the documents. Stones over 1 carat should come with a certificate. Smaller pavé stones are documented at batch level — the industry norm — so don't expect a separate cert for every stone on a fully iced chain.
  5. Compare total cost, not just chain price. Does the price include shipping? Insurance? Aftercare? A $450 chain with $80 shipping and no warranty might cost more long-term than a $600 chain with free shipping and lifetime maintenance.
